Where Rainbows End Review
Where Rainbows End is a comic-romantic novel by Cecelia Ahern also known as the author of PS. I love you.
The book is a collection of letters, chatrooms, little notes, birthday cards ecc.. that the main character, Rosie, collected throughout 50 years. The book is about Rosie, and follows her life from her best friend’s 7th birthday party to the last letter sent by her best friend.
Plot from Literary Chronicles:
“Rosie and Alex are close friends from childhood but one day they are suddenly separated when Alex and his family move from Dublin to Boston. The book guides us through their relationship as it continues to change due to distance, new relationships and circumstances which seem determined to keep them apart. One question remains throughout the book, were they always meant to be more than friends and will they risk everything including their friendship on love?”
The story is mainly set in Dublin and a little in Boston. The language in the book is simple and informal and the rhythm is very fast.
I liked the book very much but there are a few aspects I didn’t like: first of all the only character fully characterized is Rosie, most of the times the reader can’t understand Alex and the other characters fully. The time lapses in the book are huge, sometimes you have about 3 letters for 10 years.
Anyway I found the book really catchy and funny and it made me laugh a lot, and sometimes made me angry because Alex and Rosie (like what was written on Love, Rosie’s movie poster) Just can’t get themselves together!!
