“When it comes to relationships, everyone has a type. Colin Singleton’s type is girls named Katherine. He has dated–and been dumped by–19 Katherines. In the wake of The K-19 Debacle, Colin–an anagram-obsessed washed-up child prodigy–heads out on a road trip with his overweight, Judge Judy- loving friend Hassan. With 10,000 dollars in his pocket and a feral hog on his trail, Colin is on a mission to prove a mathematical theorem he hopes will predict the future of any relationship (and conceivably win the girl). An Abundance of Katherines was a 2007 Michael L. Printz Honor book and a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. It was also named one of the books of the year by Booklist, Horn Book, and Kirkus.”
I read this book during Christmas holydays because I wanted a light book which was easy and enjoyable to read and this book completely fulfilled my expectations.
General Information about the book:
The book is about 300 pages long, not too short, not too long.
It is written in first person by the main character, Colin a teenager that was just dumped by his 19th Katherine.
The story is mainly set in Gutshot a small town in Tennesee, where it is said that there is the resting place of the body of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
The other relevant characters are Lindsey ( a girl living in Gutshot that soon becomes friend with Colin) and Hassan, Colin’s best friend.
My Impression:
I found this book really amusing and made me laugh lots of times, most of all when I read the hilarious dialogues between Colin and Hassan.
Generally John Green’s books have a deep background concept but this time I don’t think that the book really had one but I liked it anyway because it is a light, fun and fresh book that can be read in any situation.
I also found the mathematical part interesting (considering that I hate Maths!!!) and it was really cool to see the development and explanation of the theorem throughout the book.
General Critic:
I would suggest you to read it, it’s the kind of book that can be read in any situation as it’s avery enjoyable and fresh lecture.
4 out of 5
